End of March

Well, here we come to the end of the first quarter of 2011. Damn, this year has been flying. It seems like it was yesterday that we were celebrating Christmas!

It’s been a couple of calm months, but like they say, it’s only the calm before the storm, and the next couple of months will be a storm of hard work. Still, better to have work to do than none.

Also this month I’ll see if I can finally manage to finish 360host, the new name for webmadeira.net It’s been in the works for sometime now, and it’s about time it sees the light of the server :p

What else is new recently? Well, the F1 has started again, with Vettel leading the way on the first Grand Prix. Looks like it’s going to be a great season this year. And of course I had to buy F1 2010 for Xbox to play a bit hehe.

I’ve also added NFS Hot Pursuit to my list of games (which has been increasing for some reason, even if time has been decreasing!). Actually, it seems that the more games I have, the less time I have to play them!

Star Trek TOS is almost done as well. I’m midway on the third season, and after that is starting the movies until TNG, when it will be time to invest a bit more money buying the TNG seasons. At ~£11 pounds each, is not too bad of a deal :)

Spring is coming to London as well, a bit shy, but coming. We’ve had a couple of sunny days so far. Not many, but hopefully we’ll have some more :) Time to put the warm clothing back in the closet (I hope).

Holidays & Carnival (in Portugal)

Well, 8 more hours of work, and then is a 5 day rest :) If I was back home there would be the carnival to attent, but here the carnival is only in the end of August, so a couple more months of wait.

Also recently I’ve started doing some work on the iPhone: a sound app to generate music tracks. Yes, there are already some on the AppleStore, but is a good way to learn openAL and make something interesting at the same time :)

EDIT: Just noticed that with the latest version of wordpress you get a nice topbar when you are on the frontend (and logged in) to add new pages, check comments and a couple other things. Really useful :)

iOS app selection #1

Today I’m bringing a selection of three iOS apps that I’ve been using lately. Hope you find them useful as I did.

Weather+

This first app is a weather app.

As with all weather apps, it shows you the weather, gives you forecasts and can have multiple locations.

However, you have a nice home screen, with a lot of detail and a animated background that changes based on the weather forecast.

Sure is not something important, but it looks nice and they also have a free version supported with ads.

Theodolite

This is a really cool app that makes use of all the iPhone sensors.

It gives different information like altitude, baring, position, angles, and so on.

It also uses the camera to generate the background image, so you can use it to align something on a wall for example.

It has a free and a paid version, with the free version being supported by ads as usual.

Fit It!

This last one is a game that although it might look like Tetris, it has a very different objective.

Basically you get different shapes, and with them you need to create a square. Sounds simple? It isn’t, as you get trough the game, it actually gets harder.

The game is free on its full version, and new levels are added by the community every day. Be sure to check this one out.

This will be all for today. Next time I’ll be back with a couple more selected apps for iOS.

Chinese New Year 4709

Today was the Chinese new Year celebration at Trafalgar Square, London. Although the new year started a couple of days ago, they celebrate it for a couple of days. Today was really cool, with a lot of performances.

Unfortunately I didn’t had the time to go to China Town, but I’m sure over there was very good, but probably packed with people.

Anyway, here are the photos I took from the Trafalgar Square performances.

iOS 4.3 beta 3 iPhone

Well, today I updated the iOS on the iPhone to version 4.3 beta 3.

So far so good. The phone seems as fast as usual, battery usage is normal as well. I noticed two new features (besides the AirPlay which I can’t test): we now can see which apps use the location services, and my favorite, we can now create a personal wifi, which basically turns the phone into a hotspot.

I’m guessing in a couple of weeks we should have the final version, hopefully :)
