That’s true.
Yesterday I manage, with sucess, replace the broken glass of an iPod touch with a new one.
The process is very easy, altough it takes a bit time. It took me 30m to have everything up and running. The most dificult part is to remove the old screen, which is glued to the frame. Other than that, is fairly easy (remove back cover, remove around 20 screws and that’s it).
For instructions on how to fix your iPod, or anything else from Apple, check the website ifixit.com.
I just did this as well, and it must have taken me at least a half hours time JUST to get all the broken glass and glue off the frame. Is possible, is also very tedious.
22 screws in case you were wondering
