X-Files: I Want to Believe

X-Files: I Want to Believe was released on dvd on the 24th November, and I grabbed the collectors edition.
Is composed by three dvds: the first one has the theatrical and extended version, plus some deleted scenes, the second has some blobs, trailers and a 80m documentary about the X-Files.

For some reason, the basic X-Files one dvd version comes with a ‘I Want to Believe’ poster but the X-Files collectors edition does not. I wonder why…

About the movie itself, is basically a two hours episode. It doesn’t offer the viewers the answers to the questions left on the X-Files finale, The Truth. I for one would like to know more about what happened after.
In truth, it feels like for this movie they just forgot the last three seasons of X-Files. I mean, on The Truth the main characters were pretty much fucked up. The FBI was after Mulder, definitely the aliens would like to get their hands into Mulder as well, and in this movie is like ‘come Mulder, all is forgotten and forgiven.’

The episode, sorry, the movie itself is good. Is a good story, with some twists a couple of times, and the acting was good as well. It was also good to see Mulder and Scully together again.

If you are a X-Phile, then this is definitely a must buy item.

Meanwhile, I’ll wait that in the future there is a third movie that addresses what was left in the air on The Truth. Or better yet, give us the tenth season.

Mark this day: May 8, 2009

Mark this day, May 8, 2009, as the day you have to go to the nearest cinema to see the new Star Trek movie.

More release dates.

Star Trek XI in 5 months

Only five more months to go, so that we can go to the cinema see the new Star Trek XI, directed by J.J. Abrams.

The movie will be a return to origins, where we will see the young days of the crew of Star Trek. Kirk, Sulu, McCoy, Ahura and Spock, among many others, will make us company during the duration of the movie.

A second trailer has emerged, and this must be torture. A trailer like this, and we still have to wait five more months. So far, it looks like the original canon will not be followed, so maybe this means a new era for Star Trek will begin now.

Maybe one day we may have more than a glimpse of NCC-1701-J.

Also, make sure to check the trailers following this link.

Beverly Hills 90210

This nice show has been remade, and now that I have seen three episodes, I think I can make a proper review of it.

So basically we had this:

And now we have this:

Well, first things first: why, why do they put actors that seem to have 25 to 30 years act like they had 16? It takes some realism to the show, don’t you think?

So far the show has been kind of boring, with such a history that has been repeted itself over and over on other shows. It actually makes me remember of OC, and altough OC was nice on it’s time, there is no need to copy it over.

I really hope it improves over the next few episodes, because to be like this is better to be canceled. I think not many people would miss it.

Phoenix Premium 1080P HDMI DVD Player

I have recently bought this dvd for £35, and despite some reviews saying that is not that good, I have a completly different opinion.

This player can read everything I throw to him: DVDs (is region free), divx movies, xvid movies, mp3.

It supports an external drive, using a usb 2.0 connection. The only limitation is that the external drive must be formated as FAT or FAT32. It does not support NTFS.

It has 5.1 sound, as well an SPDIF output. I use the 5.1 output and is really great. There is also the SCART connector, the composite connector and, the one I use, the HDMI connector.

When you use the HDMI, you can upscale all the media that you are seeing on the dvd. I’ve been seeing Battlestar Galactica and X-Files upscaled to 1080p and the difference for the normal resolution is abysmal. It seems like I am there (this is special true on X-Files, which is a older show).

The remote works well, giving all the functions needed. The player is also very small, and it does not overheat, and also operates very silently.

Overall, it is a good product to buy. There are probably better options on the market, but for £35 this is a bargain.
