Year of the Dragon

Hello everyone and welcome to my first 2012 post.

Again I’ve been a bit behind with updating this blog, but well, not much has happened anyway.

This last weekend I went to see the Chinese New Year celebrations at Trafalgar Square in London. Quite a nice event, with a lot of colour, sound and cool performances.

Here’s a couple of movies I did. Would like to have done more, but it was freezing there, so it was hard to keep filming for too long!

Going from 3 to Vodafone

Well, took me a long while, but finally today, the transfer is over.

Quitting 3 was quite easy (and lucky): I still have a few months left on my contract, but because they made a mistake on my account, I was able to terminate the contract early (hurray!). Was kind of expecting them to make me some offer so I wouldn’t change networks, but no. Way to treat a three and a half year old customer.

Going to Vodafone was easy. Having a friend working there even made the contract sweeter (£560 for a one year contract with 1200 minutes, unlimited texting, 750MB mobile internet, 2GB internet using openWiFi and 25MB / day when on roaming and 10 free sms when on roaming).

But of course, a contract like this had to come with a phone. Now that was a story. Had a two week wait for the phone (fine, I could live with that), but on the day they were supposed to deliver (the crappy DPD service) I was home waiting for it, and they don’t deliver! DPD comes with an excuse that it had been refused (the twats). So call Vodafone, ask for redelivery next day at work address, all good and next day… no delivery! Was already on its way back to Vodafone (again, DPD twats).

So another call, another arrangement (after finding where the hell my phone was) and it was delivered today at a Vodafone store.

At last, after walking a thousand miles (not really, I took the bus), I’ve put my iPhone 4 to rest (until Christmas) and got a nice white upgrade to the… drum-roll…. iPhone 4S 16GB!

PS: The photo above makes me think is time to upgrade my bridge to a slr…

How to keep iPhone iPod iPad configuration after formatting or getting a new pc or mac

Worst thing that can happen is when you format your computer and you need to sync your iPhone, iPod or iPad with your computer. And what happens? Everything gets messed up and you need to set up everything from scratch.

I found this by chance, and for it to work you need to have iOS5 and an iCloud account.

This was tested using the iPhone 4, the iPad 2, Windows 7 and Snow Leopard, all up to date, using iTunes 10.5 Beta 7.

So, what are the steps?

1 – Make a backup into the cloud of your device;

2 – Restore your device settings. Upon restart you will get the welcome screen to input all your details.

3 – When you get a choice to restore from a backup, choose the iCloud backup. This will make the device start to download all the apps you had previously.

4 – Once the device starts downloading the apps, connect it to the computer with iTunes open.

5 – On iTunes, choose the device, go to the apps tab and choose to sync the apps. You will see that the device kept the layout configuration you had already setup.

6 – Just wait for it to finish synchronizing and you are all done.

Star Trek viewing order

Now that I’m on a little break from work I decided to go back and refresh my star trek. It’s been a while since I’ve watched it and now I’m watching everything in order.

It’s not as easy as it might seem, as some of the seasons and movies overlap. Bellow I’ve devised an order to watch the series and the movies without missing continuity events.

In this order I did not account for time travel episodes, as I don’t think is worth to break a season in half just to see an episode from another season or series that happened on that stardate. But I guess that for the most hardcore fans, they might do that :p

Anyway, without any further ado, here’s the viewing order for all of Star Trek. Movies are in italic bold.

Enterprise

The Original Series

The Animated Series

The Motion Picture

Wrath of Khan

Search for Spock

The Voyage Home

The Final Frontier

The Undiscovered Country

The Next Generation S01-06

Deep Space Nine S01

The Next Generation S07

Deep Space Nine S02

Generations

Deep Space Nine S03

Voyager S01

Deep Space Nine S04

Voyager S02

First Contact

Deep Space Nine S05

Voyager S03

Deep Space Nine S06

Voyager S04

Issurection

Deep Space Nine S07

Voyager S05-07

Nemesis

You could leave Star Trek Enterprise series to the end, as it was the last one released, and set as a prequel, and, in my view, showed a somewhat more advanced Enterprise. At least regarding the looks I think the NX-01 looked better than the NCC-1701.

Finally, after you’ve seen all this you should go back and watch the new Star Trek movie, which changes the time line and hopefully will, in the near future, introduce new series.

Live long and prosper.

Thor

Well, this weekend I went to see Thor. What a great movie indeed. A lot of action, the story was good, the acting as well, Natalie was on it, and can’t wait to see the First Avenger the end of July and The Avengers next year :)

Just one note, remember to wait for the end of the credits. There’s a nice thing there…
