Today (actually yesterday) was the premiere on the UK for Transformers 2. As a fan, I had to be present.
The movie was a typical Michael Bay movie: explosions, explosions, and let’s not forget explosions. You kind of get lost on the middle of so many Autobots and Decepticons, specially on the ones that one make a brief appearance.
At one point, I was thinking that for once, the Decepticons were going to win, but as usual, they retreat at the first difficulty. Nothing new here.
The movie was also a bit long. At one point, on the one before last battle, the battle just went on and on, for a final battle that lasted 5% of the time of the previous one. I would have prefered to see a less longer battle in the middle of the second part, and a much bigger battle in the end between Optimus and Fallen.
We’ll have to wait and see what Transformers 3 will bring to the screen, but this movie made me interested in going back to the cartoons and review the whole series (maybe start with the beast wars).
So, go see the movie. All in all, it deserves a good 8 out of 10. Just don’t go after a whole day of work like I did. The movie is long, really long.
And my favorite quote, to Michaela: ‘You are hot, but not so big for brains.’ (or something along this lines). So true!
Last Sunday I finally went to Odeon to see the new Star Trek movie. It does cut with the past (or the future?) of the series, and in the end left me with a mixture of feelings.
I’ve enjoyed the movie. There is a lot of action, the acting was good and the story was cool. But, at the same time, there are those things that you think “why haven’t they done this differently so it would be easier?”. Also, the events on this movie create a new universe, so what we have learned trought the characters of TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise gets lost in time.
All in all, is a movie that is worth seeing. Storywise, I dare to say it is the best Star Trek movie so far. But because it cuts completly with the know universe, other people might disagree (a part of me does).
Some rules you should probably print about the myths of ‘Computer Guys’.
1. The ‘Computer Guy’ sleeps! It may seem a lie, but he really needs to sleep and rest like any other person. Forget he has a phone with him at all times. Phone him only to the office during the working hours. The ‘Computer Guy’ does need to rest on evenings, weekends and holidays, like any other person.
2. The ‘Computer Guy’ eats. Seems unbelievable, but is true. The ’Computer Guy’ also needs to feed himself and even has hours to do this, every day.
3. The ’Computer Guy’ may have a family. This is probably the must unbelievable of all, but even being the ’Computer Guy’, he needs to rest at weekends to give attention to family, friends or even himself, without thinking and talking of computers, taxes, forms, maintenances and demonstrations.
4. The ’Computer Guy’, like any other citizen, needs money. Is surprising, but the ’Computer Guy’ also pays taxes, buys food, needs gas, clothes and shoes. Don’t ask to the ’Computer Guy’ what you can’t pay.
5. Read and study is also work. And real work. So when you see the ’Computer Guy’ concentrating in reading a book or a specialized magazine he is actually improving himself as a professional, therefor, working.
6. This is something you should probably interiorize: the ’Computer Guy’ is not a seer, does not do card reading, has a crystal ball or any other thing to guess what other people think or do. If you thought it was like this, you should hire a psychic, witch or detective. The ’Computer Guy’ needs to analyze, plan, organize and that clients explain to them to detail what they really want, so that the ’Computer Guy’ can have conditions to do a proper job. Deadlines are essential and not a luxury. If you want a miracle, pray a lot and let the ’Computer Guy’ alone.
7. In friends or family reunions, the ’Computer Guy’ stops being the ’Computer Guy’ and becomes the friend or family guy, as he was before he took the ’Computer Guy’ role. Don’t ask him for tips or advice. He also has the right to have a good time.
8. The are no small jobs. ’Computer Guy’ don’t fix small jobs. Every job has to come from the analyzes, planing and dedication from the ’Computer Guy’.
9. About phone use: the phone is a working tool. Only call when necessary. Outside working hours, even if you still have some doubts, the ’Computer Guy’ may be doing something else that you did even not imagine he would be capable of doing, like sleeping or dating.
10. Asking for the same thing several times don’t make the ’Computer Guy’ work faster. Ask. Then wait for the schedule given by the ’Computer Guy’.
11. There is no point in calling the ’Computer Guy’ 5 minutes before the end of working hours. Leave the call for the next day.
12. When the ’Computer Guy’ presents a new project, don’t fill all the time asking questions. This kills the concentration of the ’Computer Guy’, as well the patience. Also avoid questions like ‘How much was your laptop? What should I buy for my son to play at home?’.
13. The ’Computer Guy’ doesn’t come up with problems, nor updates pirate copies or as relations with virus. Is not his fault when you don’t know how to use your equipment.
14. The ’Computer Guy’ relates to computers (Hardware or Software, and not very often both at the same time), and not TV’s, mobile phones or home appliances. So, don’t ask the ’Computer Guy’ how to fix your mobile phone, your TV or your microwave.
15. There are several jobs relating to informatics. If you break a leg you don’t go to the optician right? So, if the ‘Computer Guy’ works with software, don’t ask him to do a network job just because he is the ‘Computer Guy’. You should probably hire the ‘Network guy’.
