Electronic Arts has released a new game on the Need for Speed series. The game is available for several platforms, although I had only access to the PC and PSP versions.

Starting with the PC version…

The game formula is the same as the last couple of Need for Speed games: buy a car, upgrade, race.

The graphics are bad for a 2008 game. Even most wanted, which was available a couple of years ago as better graphics. The gameplay also sucks. On this game, you can make corners at 200km/h without any problem, but, once you reach the top speed, it seems like you are going at 50km/h.

The car list is impressive, with a huge selection of cars from exotics, tuners and muscle cars.

By the way, the game has a story: you are a undercover agent racing around. You would thing that because you are a undercover agent, the police would go easier on you, but no: they came in heavy force (which is actually a good thing). However, I would prefer a game with a similar handling as the pre Underground games.

Lately Electronic Arts seems like a cash cow, where the games released could be much better. Surely they have the resources to do it.

On the PSP, however, the game is more challenging. There are fewer cars, but the ones available are more than enough. The opponents are harder than on the PC, but the handling remains the same, feels like the car is glued to the track.

Overall, the PC version is not worth it’s money. In a couple of months, when it costs £15, then it will be worth the value. The PSP versions is worth the money, as it is a good companion on the long train / buses trips.
